What Is A Plastic Coating?

Until now everything was reduced to finish the walls with fine plaster and then choose a color to paint. And now it seems that the thing is not so. The systematic way in which you have started to see them leads you to consider: is there something more than a fad behind plastic plasters?

Although they are the latest materials that have been incorporated into the world of construction, today they have already been permanently installed as part of the menu of options for anyone who is about to finish the exterior of his work.

Some years of testing have already given sufficient endorsement to earn a place in the materials of completion, and it is not by chance that it is, if we take into account certain trends of what is being built.

Within what is the contemporary style of architecture, or at least what we see in magazines and on the street, there has been a generalized taste towards what we might call minimalism.

For minimalism we understand that style that adheres to the idea of architectural simplicity, which is characterized by reducing everything to the essential, that is to say, stripping it of the remaining elements. In this particular panorama, the plastic plaster finds a specific scope to look like photographic material par excellence.

Despite all this, many still doubt their choice basically because they do not know precisely what it is and what are the advantages that it poses. In that sense, let’s try to find some answers that simplify your choice.

Plastic Paint Or Plastic Plaster?

The first definition that makes it difficult to find a proper name that represents it.

I suppose that doubt arises from the moment one observes its consistency; it is a paste ( similar to plaster ) that is sold canned ( like paint ).

For lovers of the technology say that it is a mixture of elastomeric acrylic polymers, mineral fillers, and pigments, Which ultimately does not contribute almost anything to understand what it is.

I prefer to consider it as a paste, a mixture of resins, sands of different sizes and colors, incorporated in the same material, suitable to be applied directly on the wall, with a roller, but in most cases with plaster, as is done with plaster. Therefore, having commented, and to reach a more certain term, let’s call it a plastic coating.

Characteristics Of Plastic Coating

Although I mentioned its pasty consistency, once placed it is harsh to the touch, with extreme flexibility (although it sounds strange) and with excellent resistance to cracking and the microcracks typical of the surfaces that are reversed.

This is the characteristic that, in my opinion, has made it in a free part of the market. Its use comes to replace one of the most critical faults of all cementitious materials (plaster in general), very resistant, but with minimal expansion capacity.

This fact transforms the walls into surfaces full of “spiders,” very difficult to hide with any other sealer or paint, and what is worse, very prone to generate moisture problems in walls.
